After 7 years of traveling, we decided to put down roots again in our favorite place to spend our summers, Florence, Oregon. In 2004, after getting settled into an adult gated community, it was time to introduce the idea of making the Infant Bereavement Layettes project to the local residents of Florentine Estates.
Everyone loved the idea and set to work! Kits were made up for the sewers to take home and twice a month they meet in the clubhouse to embellish and complete the fetal demise gowns and bonnets. One "angel" volunteer monitors the hand made blankets and makes up the rose buds on wire stems. By this time, blanket makers from many states were sending us blankets. Within a very short year, the goal of supplying all of the hospitals in Oregon was met! We soon began to ship out over 1,000 layettes annually.
Minutes of Gold volunteers have been making infant bereavement garments for babies born too soon and donating these items to hospitals since 1992. The nurses have the challenge of presenting these tiny babies to their grieving families. Without the gifts that the volunteers provide, there would be nothing suitable, available for this purpose. A viewing is important for most families and appropriate clothing provides comfort and dignity. CONTACT US: minutesofgold@hotmail.com
